The Alaska Family Vacation A Delight To Be Sure

To many vacationers, an Alaska family vacation may seem like a cold idea but every year thousands of families explore the chilled terrain.

If you do decide to forgo an Alaskan adventure, then you will find that once in Alaska there are many fun things to do. Many people find the vast fishing options quite an entertaining catch.

In Alaska you can find amazing fly-fishing, saltwater fishing, freshwater fishing, and even ice fishing! Fishing can be as easy as casting a line off the side of the road, or as secluded as hiring a small plane to fly you to a secluded fishing hole in the middle of the icy land.

In Alaska there are over 3 million lakes, 3,000 rivers, countless fish streams, and 627 species of fish that call these Alaskan waters home.

If fishing isn’t your fancy, considering that you’d rather watch the wildlife instead of catch them for dinner, then a nice wildlife adventure might be more your speed. Alaska offers wonderful wildlife viewing where you can see polar and grizzly bears, bald eagles, hump-backed whales, wolves, orcas, moose, lynx, and hundreds of other rare animals that are very hard to spot out anywhere else.

Alaska also offers helicopter tours where it might be hard to see the tiny animals but believe me, the Alaskan scenery would distract you from the lack of animals you can’t see from that height.  Regardless, the Alaskan helicopter tours are a delightful way to see some of the 365 million acres of Alaska.

So maybe wildlife isn’t your thing and you’re into more of a social experience. If so, then you should check out some of the day cruises Alaska has to offer- like the Riverboat Discovery, which heads up the river near Fairbanks. There are also multi-day cruises to explore Alaska by. In the towns, there are great shopping areas which really specialize in Alaskan rarities, like gold nuggets, jewelry covered in jade or ivory, hand woven toys and dolls, woven baskets, as well as Alaskan delicacies- like salmon, berries, and reindeer sausage.

For those of you who would rather enjoy the day outside doing an activity instead of being on a boat or in a shop, you should go check out the vast variety of simple activities. Alaska offers bicycle rentals and tours, backcountry hiking, kayaking, canoeing, and river rafting. Depending on the time you do your activity and the season you schedule your vacation for, will determine which activities in which you can particiapte.

In the winters, the temperature is usually between 10 to 20 degrees. In the summers, weather can reach as high as mid-sixties but usually reside somewhere between the mid-fifties and low-sixties.

Alaska may not always be your first-choice vacation for everyone but as you can see, there are so many activities which offer that perfect vacation adventure for every age, and every family.

So Alaska is waiting for you!

Get packing and go on your very own Alaska family vacation.
