Frolicking in Fanciful Fairbanks Alaska

Fairbanks Alaska, nestled 358 miles north of Anchorage, has small town hospitality and a pioneer spirit to make your stay one you will not soon forget!

Fairbanks currently sits as the hub for Alaska’s Interior and Arctic with first-class restaurants, shopping centers, concerts, performances, historic sites and museums.

In Fairbanks rests some of Alaska’s top rated visitor attractions, galleries, specialty store, culture, lodging and accommodations to fit everyone’s personal needs. For this reason and many more, Fairbanks is a prime spot to begin your Alaskan vacation.

Fairbanks is located in a central location of Alaska and is home to many small villages and the surrounding wilderness. For some, Fairbanks has a more "down home frontier" feel unlike its frequent rival, Anchorage. Also, although there are countless activities in Fairbanks to participate in, the town is very concentrated and it roughly the size of New Jersey!

Involving the history of Fairbanks, it was discovered by Captain E.T Barnette in 1901 when he longed to establish a trading post in Tanacross on the Tanana River. Along the way, Barnette shipwrecked his boat in the small village of St. Michael. While there, he convinced a young captain of a steamer, Lavelle Young to drive the boat up the river. When waters got shallow, Barnette was deposited onto a riverbank which soon became the trading post, Fairbanks.

As Fairbanks grew from the small trading post it once was, into the amazing city it has become so has the population. It has swelled to over 82,000. In the town, there are twelve radio stations, six television stations, a public Broadcasting System operated by the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and obviously cable TV. Fairbanks has one daily newspaper, the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner; churches, 32 public schools, numerous private schools and even a regional library. It is also the second largest city, second only to Anchorage.

Along with all of the amazing amenities, Fairbanks also has pretty reasonable weather conditions. In the summer the day seems to never end, lasting an entire 21 hours of sunlight with a climate of about 90 degrees. In the winter, things get a little chilly with a climate of 65 degrees below zero. Plus, when there’s only 3 hours of sunlight and it’s that cold, there’s not really too much motivation to get out of the house.

Looking past the services, culture, history, and entertainment that Fairbanks has to offer you can see that this is more than an everyday town. Fairbanks, the "Golden Heart of Alaska" is a remarkable town with wonderful hospitality and it great for any family.
