Juneau Alaska And The Peak Experience

Juneau Alaska is also known as Alaska’s Peak Experience and it sits nestled at the base of grand mountain peaks and at the pristine waterfront of the Gastineau Channel- southeast Alaska.

Juneau has been called America’s most scenic state capitol and is surrounded by intercostal waterways, thriving rainforests, rough mountainsides and breathtaking, reachable glaciers.

The Mendenhall Glacier, an arm of the 1,500 square mile, Juneau Icefield, is one of the few glaciers in Alaska you can reach by car.

Also in Juneau you can find lots of fishing (for fun and for sport), hunting, flightseeing, wildlife, rafting, hiking, kayaking, whalewatching, glacier views, and much more!

Due to the physical geography of Juneau, the visitors make a huge impact in the daily lives of the 31,000 people who call Juneau "home". The visitors and vacationers, in addition to the federal employees primarily support this bustling town.

Of course, this amazing town, the third largest in Alaska in fact, wasn’t always the town in which it is today. It too was once a mere mining town- filled with miners and Russian fur trappers. Juneau was first settled by the Tlingits in 1870. In 1880 an adventurous canoe beached onto the shores of Juneau and discovered gold-speckled rock.

From there on, the Alaskan Gold Rush did all of the work of development for the town. What started out as forty miners after the initial discovery soon expanded into hundreds of curious men, hoping to strike it rich in Juneau. Following the start of the mining, came the construction of saloons, trading posts, and missionaries. In 1882 Juneau really took off with welcome of ore-crushing stamp mills.

Nowadays, Juneau is still pretty busy except for not because of the gold anymore (unless you’re counting the annual gold rush festival they have). As for the weather in Juneau- it roughly stays at a mild 65 degrees (F) in the summer and the mid-twenties in the winter… which really isn’t too bad considering you’re in Alaska.

After all, this is Juneau, Alaska, a scenic glorious delight is a place for fun, friendship, families, and new experiences so maybe weather isn’t really a factor anyway. So if you are planning a trip, perhaps you should consider a vacation to Juneau, Alaska.
